Online Visits Only in 2020

While Nichols Arboretum on the University of Michigan campus remains open, because of the ongoing pandemic we ask that you not visit the garden in person. Instead, enjoy a virtual visit to the garden. The peony garden website is full of photography from past bloom seasons. You'll also find almost everything you'd want to know about peonies on this site. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation!

Steps from University of Michigan Hospital and central campus, the Nichols Arboretum Peony Garden is easy to visit and open from sunrise to sunset.

  • The James D. Reader Urban Environmental Education Center is next to the Peony Garden at the Washington Hts/ entrance to the Arb. A range of visitor amenities are available from mid-March through mid-November. Click here for seasonal hours of operation.
  • Many food options are available nearby in several of the University Hospitals, on central campus, and downtown Ann Arbor.
  • Picnics are welcome (no cooking or campfires allowed inside the Arboretum).

The Peony Garden is near the Washington Heights entrance to 'The Arb'. It's convenient for pedestrians, persons taking the AATA or University of Michigan buses, and near major roads. Parking options vary by day and time. More information by transportation type is at the link below

When to Visit

Peonies are seasonal - so consider this information if your schedule allows it. Otherwise, the Arb is open sunrise to sunset every day.
